Combat Medics
Who are Combat Medics?
Combat Medics, often called “Pill-Pushers”, are military soldiers who are highly trained in medicine. They provide first aid and frontline trauma care to injured soldiers on the battlefield. During World War II many of the Combat Medics were doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals. Combat Medics don’t receive all of the glory that they deserve. Most of the time Combat Medics had to leave protection and go into no-mans-land, unarmed, to save a wounded soldier. Once they got to the wounded soldier, they would have to do a quick examination and provide quick treatment with bandages and medication. After the examination, Combat Medics would then return to safety with the wounded soldier to provide more treatment. It has been said that Combat Medics were one of the reasons why the mortality rate was low in World War II. Combat Medics were responsible for actually implementing many of the medical
advances made in WWII.

"They saw the worst of everything. Day after day, they put their lives on the line. When men got hit, they didn't call for their moms: they yelled medic. They were easy targets when they went to rescue a man."
